This Day Skipper Tidal Conversion course is very much a hands-on course with little time to teach navigation or other theoretical subjects. It's therefore recommended that you take the RYA Day Skipper theory course prior to your practical course so you can put those skills into practice on the water.

If you hold a non-tidal Day Skipper certificate, you may convert to a tidal certificate by completing a conversion course of approximately two days (possibly more for those inexperienced in tidal waters).

This course concentrates on:

• Close quarters handling under power and sail (if applicable)
• Navigation and pilotage using tidal calculations
• Using tidal heights and tidal streams
• Working out course to steer to allow for tidal stream and leeway
